Associate Tax Attorney Tax Controversy and Resolution

Job Overview A company seeks an Associate Tax Attorney in Atlanta, Georgia, to support federal and state tax controversy and resolution matters. The attorney will assist with tax notices, examinations, audits, appeals, penalty disputes, and other complex tax issues while working under the supervision of experienced professionals. The role involves direct interaction with federal and state revenue agencies, legal research, preparation of correspondence and legal documents, case evaluation, risk assessment, and ongoing management of tax controversy matters. Duties

• Handle federal and state tax controversy and resolution matters involving notices, examinations, audits, appeals, and related disputes.
• Review and respond to IRS notices and communicate directly with IRS representatives and state revenue agencies regarding client matters.
• Evaluate cases, assess legal and tax risks, and assist in counseling clients on complex tax issues.
• Prepare written correspondence and legal documents for submission to federal and state tax authorities.
• Draft reasonable-cause penalty abatement requests, responses to Information Document Requests, and other materials related to tax examinations.
• Conduct tax and legal research using Bloomberg and other applicable research platforms.
• Collaborate closely with tax controversy professionals while working under the supervision of partners and directors.
• Manage assigned workflow, complete tasks promptly, monitor deadlines, and maintain accurate and thorough case documentation.
• Accurately record time devoted to individual client matters and maintain information in the applicable case management system. Requirements
• Zero to three years of tax controversy experience in a law firm or accounting firm is preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated interest in tax law.
• Ability to analyze and solve unique legal and tax-related problems while working effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced professional environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with a commitment to completing projects accurately and on schedule.
• Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and collaboratively with other professionals.

• Juris Doctor degree.
• Degree in accounting is preferred but not required.
• Master of Laws in Taxation or comparable advanced taxation degree is preferred but not required. Certifications
